Articles

1000 – 2000 words maximum

Features: travel-related pieces including destination-led, activity-led, adventure-led. From five-star to under the stars travelling; preference given to adventure/off the beaten track or articles with an interesting angle not usually taken up by national supplements.

The features section will also run destinations news stories and travel industry issue pieces

Reviews: Covering only travelling accommodation that stands out from the crowd as a place that is not only a bed for the night, but an experience to be had, be it for comfort, location, food, hospitality or usually a combination of all these. Preference given to out of the way and budget places with interesting angles (ie. a hippie pousada in Brazil that serves the best breakfast and offers massage after lunch).

Spotlight: Articles covering travel book reviews, travel product reviews, tour company product reviews, bar and nightlife reviews and food & cuisine articles.

All articles must be accompanied by photography; 3-5 pics sent by email, scanned/digital at 150-300kbs.

Photography

TTR accepts both black & white and colour photography. All photographs should be clearly labelled with a location name and country.

Article Photography: should be sent as a scanned/digital file at 150-300kbs no larger (and a screen size of approx.  800 x 800px.)

Feature Photography: for inclusion in the Image Archive section of site, photography should be of an exceptional standard be it for travel/cultural subject matter, visual quality or artistic merit.
A feature photograph/photographer will be chosen each month for the Feature Photography window page. Submissions will be chosen at the discretion of the editor. Photographers featured on this page will need to submit brief details about their shot (where, how the shot evolved etc) and personal details (amateur, professional, how long a photographer etc). 
All Feature Photography images should be sent as a scanned/digital file at 150-500kbs no larger (and a screen size of approx.  800 x 800px.)

Submissions Note:

TTR cannot at this time offer payment for submissions. Started in Dec 2002, it is currently an amateur e-publication run by the editor and photo  editor/webmaster who maintain ‘day-jobs’ for a living. TTR at present draws no revenue from any source and is funded by the editor privately as an entrepreneurial project that hopes to encourage and provide a forum for aspiring travel writers and photographers. In the future, as TTR grows and develops, it is hoped to become a professional e-zine with revenue stream sourced from advertisers, sponsors and/or partnership investment companies. When this eventuality occurs, TTR will gladly begin offering commissions for submissions. Until this time we hope you agree to offer your support and material and we thank you for both.
