Something Fishy

Cid Busarow fulfilled a childhood dream when she moved to Montana last May. Another dream was reached when she and her husband, Dan, opened Fish Creek House, a bed and breakfast just outside of Whitehall.

horses"When I was young I always told my parents I wanted to live in Montana," says Cid Busarow. Living in New York and later California, she wasn’t quite sure how her dream would be realized but the persistent bi-athlete was used to pushing hard for what she wanted.

Dan, a partner in a computer business and gunsmith, and Cid originally came to Bohart Ranch near Bozeman to compete in the running and shooting competition and fell in love with the area. And so the search was on for property in Montana.

It wasn’t long before the couple found a beautiful log home located just 15 miles from the settlement of Whitehall on forty acres with views to the Tobacco Root Mountains and a stone's throw from Fish Creek.

"We'd drive up from California every month to see how the progress was going," says Cid.

During one trip, the couple took a hike down to the creek – Fish Creek. When Cid looked up at the log home nestled in the distant hills, she knew the property’s name had already been fated - Fish Creek House it was.

With the renovation complete and the bed and breakfast licenses approved, Fish Creek House is now officially open for business, offering guests a blend of rustic charm and modern conveniences.

A new barn and round pen have been built for the couple's own and although they are not offering trail rides, guests are welcome to bring their own horses and board them in the new facilities.

Other activities include hiking, antiquing, exploring nearby ghost towns and shooting clinics hosted by Cid and Dan at their own private range. On the lodge’s front doorstep is Beaverhead Deerlodge National Forest, which offers great hiking, biking, horseback riding, and cross-country skiing. Fish Creek House also a perfect stopover between Glacier and Yellowstone National Parks.

One of Dan and Cid's specialties is shooting and they plan to host clinics for enthusiasts. An Olympic rifle coach, Dan has had an shooting range specially built on the property

Another specialty of Fish Creek House is the food. Guests are treated to a gourmet breakfast and vegetables are organically grown on-site in the property’s greenhouse.

BreakfastFish Creek House offers two guests suites, each with a private bath, a large living room with a stone fireplace, a library and a sitting room, complete with a microwave and a fridge.

It’s also a place where the active businessperson can stay in touch with wireless internet facilities in each of the rooms making the lodge a "wifi hotspot."

Which just goes to prove even in the middle of beautiful nowhere, you can have it all.
